There was a time when Cas was inadequate company as well. Always relaying some grander propaganda than actually listening to anyone he might affect. But his conversational skills are improved enough now for the both the them. He understands that sometimes he needs to listen and pay attention to micro expressions or actions, and ask himself what these things might mean. Food seems to be a comfort to his Dean so he assumes it helps the version of Dean in front of him soothe his nerves. "Yes, I do. You might want another bite of your pie, but I will remind you there were other universes just like yours. All of these worlds were to designed to follow one man's sick idea of a story. Cain and Abel. Michael and Lucifer. The good thing is that you're truly free to live as you want now. There's no one else pushing your brother or you to an end beyond your control." And that's saying less. There are many versions of Dean and Sam that are lost. He won't remind Dean that Chuck (God) inserted himself into that universe and had disappeared. Chuck's punishment was to live the rest of his days as a sorry human until he passed away and likely dragged down to Hell.

That why Lucy appeals to Cas. Where there is much neutrality in the world, his wife sees where things could be better. All he would suggest is that she doesn't try to set down up with anyone that can't handle a grumpy bear in the morning or anytime really. This means the well meaning, pie baking ladies currently infatuated with Dean now. Dean integrating himself as the town mechanic would be a sight for sores eyes. Cas would like to see this version thrive as well.

Part of it sounds facetious to Castiel, but he takes Dean's cue of standing to be more certain. However, the bottle in the hunter's hand gives him pause. In a split second decision, he holds his hand up for stop. "Sit down. I'll bring him here. This place is as good as any where else. Give me a moment." As in, somewhere in public might distress other folk. Closing his eyes, the angel pictures the town in his head and where Sam is within its limits. He returns as quickly as he vanishes. Ruby might have to forgive him later for snatching up Sam in the middle of something. Cas turns toward the closed door. "He's outside when you're ready."
